Obituary of Jane Ellen Eastburn

Jane “Janie” Ellen Eastburn, caring mother, sister, and friend passed away at her home in Tucson, AZ on January 28, 2021, at the age of 64 due to complications related to pancreatitis.

Janie was born at the US Navy hospital in San Diego, CA on March 18, 1956 to her parents Arlene and Robert “Bob” Dickman.  During her first 5 years, she along with a family of two brothers and three sisters grew up in Oxnard, CA. In 1961 her father was reassigned to the Pentagon, as a US Navy officer to a command position in Arlington, Virginia. The family set up their home in Fairfax, VA where Janie spent her primary school years until graduating from James W. Robinson High School in 1974.

Soon after graduating High School, Janie moved to Bisbee, Arizona. During the next 36 years she was married and raised her family. After her family was settled Janie began to pursue her working career outside of the home. Her first major position was with the State of Arizona Department of Corrections (AZDOC). Upon completing a nine week training academy she was commissioned as a Corrections Officer. She was assigned inmate security duty and later promoted to Parole Board Liaison for the Department of Corrections Complex, Douglas, AZ. Upon leaving DOC, She took a position as “Relief Driver” for the Frito-Lay Corporation for several years. Later she accepted a position to be an Office Manager at B&D Lumber and Hardware in Bisbee, AZ.  In 2010 she relocated to Tucson, AZ and went on to receive a Medical Billing and Coding Certification from Tucson College.  Her exceptional GPA and professional enthusiasm resulted in her being hired by Coventry Health Care as a Medical Billing and Coding agent until her health required she medically retire in 2018.

Family and friends of Janie knew her for being kind, caring and compassionate towards others. She always looked to seek out the “best” in people and the world.  It was always important for her to help those in need, and she regularly supported local charities.  When not trying a new recipe in the kitchen or curling up with a good book, Janie loved to spend time tending to her plants and garden.  She also cared dearly for animals and would rarely be seen without her beloved companion, her dog Pearl.

Janie is survived by her son Peter (Christine) Eastburn, sister Carol (Geoff) Gartner, sister Glenda (Ritchie) Martinez, brother Richard (KC) Dickman, sister Julie (Richard) Reno, numerous nieces and nephews, and former husband Phil Eastburn.  She is preceded in death by her parents Robert and Arlene Dickman and her brother Robert Dickman Jr.
