Barbara Agard

Obituary of Barbara Hart Agard

Barbara H. Agard, 92, of Tucson, AZ passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020.

Barbara was born and raised in Tucson, AZ, and graduated from Amphitheater High. She was the only girl among five brothers whom she loved very much. In 1947, she became a military wife and settled in California. In 1968, her husband, George, was deployed to Naval Air Facility Atsugi, on the main island of Japan, where they moved with their two little girls. Oldest child Christopher stayed in the US to start college. Once there, Barbara encouraged her children to immerse themselves in the culture. Although shy by nature herself, she wanted her girls to have adventures and - despite no one speaking the language, often took them by train, bus, car and taxi to Yokohama, Tokyo, and many smaller cities in between. They created memories to treasure forever and she continued to foster their curiosity the rest of her life. The family moved to Guam in 1972 and finally returned stateside, settling back in California in late 1973.

Barabara worked her entire life, except for a brief reprieve when the family lived on Guam, including at the Navy Federal Credit Union, Atsugi. Back stateside, she went to work for the Pt. Mugu Federal Credit Union. She retired from Pt. Mugu in 1985, then went to work for the Oxnard School District, retiring permanently in 1995. She won many awards and accolades during her time with both employers. After retirement, she moved back to Tucson to be with her remaining brothers and family, a prospect that pleased her greatly and they were able to spend many wonderful years together.

Barbara was a dignified woman of great courage, strength, and an indefatigable amount of patience. She always kept a beautiful home - no matter where that home was, and loved to decorate for the holidays, especially Christmas. She won awards in her neighborhood for her yard designs until she was almost 90! She was always there for her children; never failing to listen, take you on an adventure, give fantastic advice or hold your hand. Yet, she would never want you to make a fuss over her. She was kind, grateful for the smallest things, and sweet until the last. Barbara passed away peacefully at home with her daughter, Kelley, by her side.

Barbara is preceded in death by father Paul and mother Hazel; husband George; brothers Paul, Bob, and Larry; nieces Jody and Phyllis, nephew Tim; and son-in-law Rick.

Barbara is survived by children Christopher, Stacey and Kelley; brother Bill and sister-in-law Betty; brother Michael and sister-in-law Paula; many nieces and nephews.

Mom, the strength you instilled in me will help me bear your loss. I love you so very much. - K
