Denis Wells

Obituary of Denis Jasper Wells

On Thursday, December 17, 2020, Denis Wells devoted husband, father of 4 children and grandfather to 1, was called home at the age of 60.

Denis was born on June 28, 1960 in Hackensack, New Jersey to Gazzie B. Davis and Jasper Wells. At the age of 2 he and his family relocated to Brooklyn, New York growing up on Van Buren Street. He often spent his summers in Wilmington, North Carolina and Passaic, New Jersey where his dear older sister, Beverly helped raise him.

At the age of 17 Denis made the life changing decision to join the armed services. He dedicated 26 years to the United States Air Force. Taking him on worldly travels, where he met his wife Sharon also building lifelong friendships along the way. Denis graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He retired as a Master Sergeant from the USAF. He completed another 15 years with civil services, with the final title of Facilities Operations Specialist or as he would say: The Man!

Denis had the gift of gab and a way with words. Every conversation with him was always a lesson. It seemed as if he knew everything and if he didn't know, he'd find out and would get back to you. He loved being around people, encouraging dialogue with anyone he crossed paths with. Denis knew how to make every encounter meaningful. Always a take away that most likely made you smile from ear to ear and heart feeling full. Friend to everyone, stranger to no one. He was a father figure, mentor, philosopher, lover and friend to all.

Denis was preceded in death by his father Jasper, mother Gazzie, and brother Darryl. He is survived by his wife Sharon, 4 children, Michael,Takeiya,Tiffany and Maurice, his grandson Jeremiah, sisters Beverly,Candice Jeanna, great aunt Marjorie, nephews, nieces and cousins.
