Audrey Conway

Obituary of Audrey Jane Conway

Audrey “Jane” Markham Conway, age 85, passed away peacefully in her Tucson, AZ home on November 28, 2020. She was surrounded by her family as they were holding her hand, kissing her forehead, speaking words of love and appreciation and praying over her.

She was born on August 5, 1935 in Dayton, Ohio to Thomas Wade Markham and Zella Arthur Markham. She graduated from California State University Long Beach with an education degree. She married Noel Grant Conway in 1957 in Santa Ana, CA and they have three children: Jill Marie Conway Graves, Jan Michele Conway Hood, and Scott Thomas Conway. She adored her grandchildren Grant William Conway, Samantha Mary Conway, Alec Michael Hood, Jonathan Thomas “JT” Hood and Autumn Noelle Hood. Likewise, she treasured her relationship with her sister, Patricia Lee Cook, and Pat’s children Diane Cook (predeceased) and Connie Cook Messemer (predeceased); and Pat’s grandchildren Michelle, Katie, Bobby and David; and Pat’s great-grandchildren Evan, Amanda and Sofia.

She was referred to as “Mama C” or “Nana” by many of her children’s friends and their kids and grandkids as she always had a listening ear, a suggestion or idea and a warm hug available. She truly made the house a “welcoming home”.

She was blessed with a life full of Jesus’ love, family love and had many friendships. She spent many hours volunteering in Orange County, CA participating in: The Assistance League of Santa Ana, Junior League and the Orange County Lawyers Wives (past-President). In Tucson, AZ, she volunteered in: PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) and at charity fundraising events in support of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson, American Academy of Pediatrics Conference, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Southwest Trauma Conference, Fiesta Bowl Charities, Wellness Council of Tucson, Tucson Interfaith HIV/AIDS Network, TMC Hospice, American Cancer Society, Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the Arizona Blind and Deaf Children’s Foundation.

John 14: 1-6 (1) Do not let your heart be troubled. Believe in God and Trust in Him believe also in Me (Jesus). (2) In my Father’s House are many dwelling places. If it were not so, I would have told you, because I am going there to prepare a place for you. (3) And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and I will take you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also. (6) Jesus said I am the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE, no one comes to the Father but through ME.

She had a strong faith in Jesus. She loved unconditionally and showed her family and friends what that looks like. We are blessed to know her and look forward to seeing her again in heaven.

Jane’s family will have a private internment at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Tucson. In light of the COVID restrictions, the family has decided to delay the public Celebration of Life to June 19, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Northminster Church in Tucson. In addition, there will be a Celebration of Life in Southern California (tbd).
