Carol MacMillan

Obituary of Carol MacMillan

Carol Marie Macmillan, 76, died peacefully in her Tucson home on November 7, 2020. Carol will be sadly missed by her family and many friends in Tucson, AZ, Mission, BC and Vancouver, BC. A memorial service will be conducted in Tucson and streamed online on November 21, 2020.

Carol was born in Mission, BC on June 29, 1944 to Conrad Laurence Siverson and Jessie Effie Marie Siverson, both deceased. She is survived by her sister Sharon (Larry and their three children Laureen, Rochelle and Danette), her brother David, former spouse Thomas, her spouse Rob, and their blended family Johanna (Rod and children Olivia and Thomas), Todd (Tracy and their son Levi), Tara (Graeme and their son Ronan), Evian (Courtney and their son Charlie, Jen and their children Brooklynn and Tate), Sam (Jenna and their children Noah and Coen) and her beloved Seri.

Carol’s high school culminated in lasting friendships with a group of women that maintained a wonderful connection her entire life. Carol was so happy to last meet with them in Delta, BC during the summer of 2019.

She was a dedicated member of the Maple Ridge municipal government team as a programmer/analyst. She worked tirelessly for many years while also raising her children.

Carol loved her golf and made many friends at Swan-e-set in Vancouver and Ventana in Tucson. She loved competing. She had three holes-in-one much to the chagrin of golfing family members. She was twice president of the Women’s Golf Association at Ventana. It upset her that her illness made it impossible to play in her final years.

Pickleball and walking became her exercise program. She played Pickleball to win. She introduced the game to Ventana after a visit to friends in California. She was determined that we should play at Ventana and marked out the first court with duct tape. She was the inspiration for Pickleball at Ventana.

Our family is quite competitive, none more so than Carol. Everything becomes a contest. We had a family ping pong tournament each year. Carol started a family Pickleball tournament. Mad bridge, Waterworks and especially Pit were almost contact sports. Carol loved a contest and was good at all of them.

She was a wonderful mother to our five children and a doting grandmother to her nine grandchildren. She was wonderful to be around, with a delightful sense of humor that she retained to the end. She was the best, most understanding spouse you could ever ask for and will be eternally missed by all her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Carol’s name to the Michael J Fox Foundation, the Lewy Body Dementia Association, or the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the staff at Harmony Hospice and for the care they provided Carol at home in her last days. They would also like to give a special thank you to Rahime Ademi from Total Care Connections who helped Carol for more than a year and became a wonderful friend.
