Charles Sherman

Obituary of Charles Guy Sherman

Charles "Chuck" Guy Sherman, 87, of Tucson, Arizona, graduated to Heaven on Thursday, June 25, at the Southern Arizona VA Hospital after a short battle with COVID-19. Born to Don and Bessie Sherman on March 30, 1933, and raised in The Daily Township, Dixon County, Nebraska.

Growing up, Chuck was a beloved young man and a farmhand who understood and lived out the values of hard work and service. Chuck enrolled in the military in 1953 and served our country as a gunner in the U.S. Army. After his military service, Chuck worked for Swift Packing in Sioux City, Nebraska, before moving to Tucson, Arizona, where he began a career as a meat cutter for Safeway, which he held until his retirement.

Chuck loved to golf and shared many stories of times spent with his friends out on the course. Later in life, Chuck was an avid walker, putting miles in each week at the mall or the walking path by the Rillito River near his home. If you ever met Chuck, you weren't a stranger for long as he was sure to strike up a conversation with a joke or a story. He loved to help out those in need, including less fortunate neighbors, by cutting their grass or bringing them groceries.

If you ever stopped by Chuck's place, you would probably find him watching a ball game, a golf tournament, or a western movie from the comfort of his recliner. As a butcher by trade, Chuck knew how to make a mean steak dinner, and was always the gracious host.

Above everything else, Chuck was a dad. He loved each of his five children with fierce loyalty, and any conversation with Chuck would ultimately end in him bragging about his kids. Chuck lived a simple and quiet life and was loved by many, especially by those who knew him as Dad.

While we already feel Chuck's absence, his legacy and memory live on in our hearts.

Chuck is survived by his younger brother, Donald of Wayne, Nebraska and five children: William of Spokane, Washington, Danial of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Laura of Tucson, Arizona, Jill of Parker, Colorado, and Michael of Colorado Springs, Colorado as well as sixteen grandchildren and many more great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Bessie (Harness), his brother Leslie, and two sisters, Betty and Donna.
