Clara McBrayer

Obituary of Clara A. McBrayer

Clara Alice McBrayer lived a full and memorable one hundred years and touched so many lives.  She is preceded in death by her brother, Ova Jean McBrayer and her sister, Edna Pendergraf, as well as her son, Lowell Dean McBrayer.  She is survived by another son, Harold Shackelford, and four grandchildren, Tamara, Chandra, Lowell Jr., and Wayne.   She also has countless friends who call her mom, aunt or grandma!

Clara lived in Ohio and Maryland, and then settled in Arizona, where she has lived for the past 53 years.  She worked in the garment industry for years, and served as a host-family for international students.  Not just her students, but also her neighbors, her mailman, her pen pals, strangers…So many people found not just a friend, but a new family member once they met Clara.   She gave to multiple charities, read romance novels, hosted fabulous meals for groups of 2 or 50, hated cats, and liked jewelry.   She was generous, a great talker, and occasionally told quite inappropriate jokes.  She loved her dog Snoopy and her birds,  chimichangas with margaritas, collecting things like salt shakers and owls, but most of all, she loved people, and we are better for having known her.

A final visitation will be held at Brings Funeral Home on Friday, June 26th from 3:00 – 7:00pm.
