Sylvester Morey

Obituary of Sylvester A. Morey

Morey, Sylvester A., Sy, passed away peacefully Friday May 29, 2020 at the age of 95. He was preceded in death by his wife Gerda, and his daughter Diana.  He is survived by his sons Norman and Gary, daughter Gilda (Bruce), and his grandchildren Stephanie Jonathan and Christine.  He lived a long productive life and realized all the dreams he pursued.  He was a WWII veteran, and a graduate of the University of Arizona.  Many longtime residents of Tucson will remember him as the owner of Desert Pet Center from 1974-2003.  He was a lover of animals, especially cats, and took care of many during his lifetime.  With the help of his neighbor Nanci, he was involved in trap, neuter and release in his neighborhood which saved countless strays from suffering.  He loved feeding the birds in the backyard and taking daily walks with his kids.  He was adopted as the official mascot of the U of A Lacrosse team and retrieved hundreds of runaway balls for them.   They were always very appreciative of him when he showed up at their practices and had special cheers for him.  We take solace in the fact that he was loved by many and made his mark here on earth and passed on gently while sleeping.  We thank the staff of El Rancho Encanto for the care that they thoughtfully provided during his stay there.  He will be missed.

His family will celebrate his life in a private ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your choice of animal rescue organizations or to Tucson Zoological Society  (Reid Park Zoo).
