Larry Allaman

Obituary of Larry Lee Allaman

Larry Allaman passed away peacefully April 28th, 2020, in Vail, Arizona, at age 83, with his family at his side.

Born and raised in Monmouth, Illinois, he graduated from Monmouth High School and went on to earn his BA from Monmouth College (1958) and MS in Chemistry from the South Dakota School of Mines (1960).  He did post-graduate work at Ohio State University and obtained teaching certificates in Illinois and New York.

While teaching in Illinois and New York, he also served in the US Army Reserves.  Upon discharge from the Army, he signed on with the Department of Defense Schools, where he spent the remainder of his career.  He taught science, mathematics, and German courses at High School and International Baccalaureate levels at several locations in Europe, including France, Germany, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Italy.

His hobbies included travel; skiing; gardening; and mushrooms, passing the German examination to become a certified "Pilzberaeter" (mushroom expert).  He also enjoyed studying Twentieth Century History and reading science fiction.

He is survived by his wife, Kristine; his faithful Labrador retriever, Noel; and remembered fondly by the many students who learned chemistry, physics, and mathematics from their beloved teacher.
