Obituary of Marie J. Yappel
After ninety-four wonderful years of life on this earth, Marie Yappel passed away on February 2, 2020. she was born on January 22, 1926 in Manhattan, New York and raised in little Falls, New Jersey. One of four children of Italian parents, Joseph & Lena Giordano, she was very close to her brothers and especially her sister Lillian, who lived in richmond, Virginia. after graduating high school, she attended Barry College, now known as Barry Universityin florida, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics.
Feeling a desire to help the military, she entered the United States Air Force on September 4, 1951. she was a captain in the Air Forceand worked as a dietician. She served her country during the Korean War. After having served her country faithfully for fifteen years and having been stationed in many different cities, she ended up at Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, AZ. Soon after arriving there, she was introduced to her Anthony, an associate professor at the University of Arizona. She retired from the Air Force in 1966, and she and Anthony married on july 29, 1966. They have a daughter, Lisa Yappel of tucson, AZ.
Marie was a wonderful wife, mother and devout Catholic with a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She also loved to sing and was a fantastic cook.
Marie was active in her church as well as politics. she did volunteer work with her husband at Casa de los Ninos. she loved babies and children and she was much beloved by her husband (deceased) and daughter. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Yappel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that masses be offered for the repose of Marie's soul.
