Obituary of Philip Johnson Grimes

Phillip Johnson Grimes died of natural causes on January 17, 2020, at his home.  He was born July 7, 1932 in Lexington NC to Ivey and Sadie Massey Grimes, the third and youngest of three sons.  Phil was raised in NC and joined the US Air Force in 1952 at age 19 and trained as an aircraft mechanic.  He spent sixteen years in the Air Force and was honorably discharged, last stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Tucson AZ. During his time in the Air Force, he married and had three children.  Later he married his current wife, Katheryn Ferguson Grimes.  The things that brought him the most satisfaction in life were his time in the Air Force, tinkering with mechanical and electrical projects, and traveling with his wife to the southwest US and taking an occasional cruise.  Phil is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ivey Grimes and Kenneth Grimes, and son, Gary Grimes.  He is survived by his two daughters, Deborah Clark and Phyllis Williams, and his wife of 24 years, Katheryn Ferguson Grimes.  He will be buried in the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Sierra Vista, AZ.
