Obituary of Ida Burgner Cajero

Ida Cajero

Nov. 29, 1929— Jan. 2, 2020

CAJERO, Ida Burgner, 90, Tucson passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Jan. 2, 2020.

Ida was born in Douglas, AZ to Harold Burgner and Josephine Vasquez. She was the fourth of five sisters: Josephine, June, Lillian and Madeline.

After graduating from Douglas High School, she moved to Tucson to attend St. Mary’s Nursing School. Shortly after graduating in 1953, she married Innocente “Mark” Cajero; the couple started their family later that year with the birth of their daughter Ida Christine on Christmas Day. Lupe and Charlie followed thereafter, and the five of them lived in the same bright-pink house on Flores Street for decades.

Outside of work and raising her family, she was a passionate Arizona Wildcats basketball fan. She was an avid reader, a meticulous gardener and a devout Catholic who rarely missed mass. Her gregariousness and joy at family gatherings was contagious, and she was gifted with a sharp wit and selfless love for others.

Throughout life, Ida found contentment in weekend trips to Sedona, spending time with her grandchildren, making tamales with her family on Christmas, or calling her friends on their birthdays. She found fulfillment in any moment — no matter how big or small.

She is survived by her sisters Lillian Meeks Durazo and Madeline Cruz, her children Ida Briones (Jesus), Lupe Surratt (Joel) and Charlie (Cindy), grandchildren and a loving extended family.
