Obituary

Esther Lee Green was born in Gonzales County, Texas to her parents LE & Ollie Curtis. Esther is preceded in death by her parents, maternal /paternal uncles and aunts, her brother Jimmy Curtis, and her great granddaughter Terina Jones. Surviving relatives include: 4 Brothers: LE Curtis Jr, John Curtis (Doris Curtis), Eddie Curtis (Yvonne Curtis), and Floyd Curtis (Monet Curtis). 3 Sisters: Albert Jones, Jessie Chany, and Louise Green (Bobby Green). Her 2 sons: Harold/” Buck” Johnson (Yanett Johnson) and Rickey Burnes (Kim Burnes). 2 Daughters MaryAnn Ellis and Sue Willa Cephus. 7 Grandsons, 6 granddaughters, 4 great grandsons, 3 great granddaughters. 2 great great grandsons, 1 great great granddaughter, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Esther was baptized in the Church of Christ in Tucson, Az in her 30’s. In her young age she played basketball and every time she was in the game her team won and every time she sat out, they lost. She started working at the young age of 13 years old and continued working for 63 years and was never without a job. She loved to cook and bake and spent some time working in a café.  Her meals were loved and treasured so much by the community that the café would always sell out of food. Her children have fond memories of going to work with their mom when she worked for Mr. & Mrs. Garcia MD who treated Esther like family. She worked at both their doctor office and their home because of her great work ethics. The Garcia children also loved her and looked up to Esther like a mom. Esther also loved to play dominoes and did not spare any family members, young and old, from a dominoe whooping!
