Obituary of Charlotte Jeanne Holmes

Charlotte Jeanne Holmes, age 78, passed away on July 10, 2018, in Tucson, Arizona, in the presence of her loving husband of 36 years, Robert Holmes.  Charlotte died from complications of a recurrence of Non-Hodgkins lymphoma, from which she had previously recovered in 2016.  Born in Fort Defiance, Arizona on April 21, 1940, she spent much of her childhood in Sells, Arizona, before moving to Tucson and graduating from Pueblo High School.  She studied medical technology at the University of Arizona in Tucson and Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana.  She lived briefly in Indiana with her first husband before returning to Tucson to work in the medical laboratories, first at St. Joseph’s Hospital, and then at the University of Arizona Medical Center, later University Medical Center, until her retirement.

Charlotte will be remembered by her family and many friends for her loving, generous, and caring spirit, her fabulous cooking, her fondness of children (and their love for her), and her love of movies.  She was a gracious hostess and kind soul, happy to lend a helping hand to those in need.  She and her husband Robert were avid sailors for many years before and after retirement, and enjoyed many travel adventures on land and sea in Mexico, the United States, and throughout the world.  She was also a breast cancer survivor, living another 30 years after her first diagnosis in 1988. 

Charlotte is survived by her husband, Robert, her daughter, Karin Kizer, her son, Kevin Kizer, stepsons Alexander Holmes and Daniel Holmes, and granddaughters, Sacha Holmes, and Katherine Cantu. 

A memorial service hosted by Robert Holmes will be held on Saturday, August 11 at 3 p.m. at Bring’s Broadway Chapel, 6910 E. Broadway Blvd., Tucson, Arizona, 85710.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Charlotte’s memory to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the American Cancer Society, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, or Casa de los Niños.  Condolences may be sent to Robert Holmes, 2727 N.
