Obituary of Gregory Dean Redman

Mr. Gregory D. Redman, 60, of Tucson, Arizona, died peacefully on Sunday evening, July 15, 2018, after a brave fight with cancer.

Greg was born September 4, 1957 to Donald and Ruth (Schatz) Redman. He grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and attended Catholic schools.  After graduating from LaSalle High School, Greg attended college at Iowa State University and later moved to Colorado, where he met his wife, Denise.  They were married in 1986 and made their home in Tucson, where Greg started a cabinetry business that he successfully operated for over 30 years.

During the 1970’s, Greg actively participated in numerous table tennis tournaments and events, winning several trophies in regional and national competitions.  On one humorous occasion, he even played a table tennis match against Bobby Riggs, as a promotional event sponsored by the well-known tennis celebrity.  Although Bobby Riggs was a pretty fair table tennis player, he could not beat Greg.   And while Bobby suggested a rematch on the tennis court, Greg wisely declined knowing he would be the one who was at the disadvantage in that match.  And for many years throughout his life, Greg continued his interest in table tennis with occasional entry in tournaments. 

Greg was a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother.  He was a man who made many friends and had the respect of his business acquaintances. He is survived by his wife Denise, his sons Chris Redman and Sean (Sheena) Redman, his daughter Lisa, grandsons Owen Redman and Maverick Redman, his sister Susan (Jim) Sinkiawic, his brothers-in law Dennis (Sheila) Geck and Joe (Sherry) Geck along with many nieces/nephews, aunts/uncles, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his dear parents, several aunts/uncles, and cousins.

A rosary for family and friends will be on Friday, July 27, 2018, at 7:00pm, at Bring’s Broadway Chapel, 6910 E. Broadway Blvd., Tucson, Arizona 85710. The funeral service will be Saturday, July 28, 2018, at 10:00am, at St. Francis de Sales Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco, Tucson, Arizona 85710, with a luncheon to follow. The family would welcome having additional masses offered for him.
