Obituary
Obituary of Lucille Toal
Lucille (Lucy) Kremer Toal passed away December 20th at the Bradford Home in Tucson. Lucy was born in Jesup, Iowa September 12, 1927 to Mathias and Matilda Kremer. After graduation from High School she moved to Chicago to work for the FBI as a clerk. She was not happy with the cold weather while in Chicago so she moved to Phoenix in 1952 taking a job with Prudential Insurance Company. She met her future husband John (Jack) Toal, an airman in the U.S.A.F, stationed at Luke AFB. They were married October 10, 1953 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Phoenix. Jack was making a career in the military so the couple made many changes the next 15 years with extensive travel to bases both in the U.S. and overseas. Lucy and Jack have five children, while the two youngest were in Palo Verde High School Lucy went back to work. She got into the medical insurance billing business working for doctors' offices for about ten years. After retiring Lucy began quilting. She had been a seamstress who sewed her children's clothes in their younger years, so quilting came naturally. She had a talent with fabric and colors making beautiful and award winning quilts for family and friends. Our family and others are most proud of her desire to do charity work making quilts for the children in the Child Protective Services program. In 2011 she was selected a "Tucson Hero" by the Tucson Weekly Newspaper, which stated "Lucy once won prizes for her hand stitched, hand pieced wedding quilts and has the ribbons to show for it". Lucy is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jack, her children; Danny (Gail) Toal, Susan (Todd) Fountain, Kathy (Bill) Cole, Chris (Sheryl) Toal, Margaret (Bill) Coalter. Four grandchildren; Joel (Kaitie) Fountain, Christie Toal, Jessica (Rick)DeNise and Whitney (Bryce) Gutierrez., with 3 great grandchildren. The family would like to thank all those at the Bradford Home for their love and care of Lucy over the last 2 ½ years. Funeral Services will be at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, Friday, December 29th at 10:00am with a viewing at Brings Mortuary Broadway, Thursday, December 28th from 6pm to 8pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Catholic Charities.
