Obituary of Keith A. Sanders

Keith A. Sanders, 92, of Tucson, Ariz., passed away quietly at home on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018. He was born on May 10, 1925 in Lakeville, Ind., to Edgar R. and Manola (Houser) Sanders. On November 27, 1943, in South Bend, Ind., he married Ruth Anne (Shafer) Sanders, who survives. Also surviving are his brother, Kenneth, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four sons, Dennis of New Albany, Ind., David (Barbara) of Portage, Mich., Marc (Renée) of Holts Summit, Mo., and Jeffri of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edgar Jr. and Eugene; two sons, Kraig and Eric; and two daughters, Vicki and Priscilla. Keith was a graduate of Lakeville High School in 1943, and later took classes at both IUSB and Notre Dame. He worked his entire career as an accountant at Uniroyal (formerly Ball Band) in Mishawaka, Ind., and assisted a large roster of private clients with income tax preparation. Keith and Ruth began their married life in Gilmer Park; lived 40 years in River Park (South Bend); and spent the last 23 years in Tucson. He was a longtime member of River Park United Methodist Church, where he also taught Sunday School with his wife. He was a great supporter of all of his children's activities, which included becoming a leader in Indian Guides and Boy Scouts. After moving to Tucson, he helped with bookkeeping at the Little Shop at St. Philip's In The Hills Episcopal Church, and served as Treasurer for several years with the Arizona Early Music Society. Keith was an avid amateur photographer and history buff, especially of the American Civil War era. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.
