Obituary of Bruce Lane McBride

Bruce Lane McBride, 90, passed away December 30, 2003 in Tucson, AZ. He was survived by his wife of 65 years, Velda Norton McBride. Bruce was the father of four children and spouses Layne Logan and Larry, Steven McBride and Julie, Leora McBride, and Robert K. McBride. His youngest son, Robert and son-in-law, Larry Logan preceded him in death. Bruce was the son of Robert Franklin McBride and Clara Simms McBride of Thatcher, AZ. He had nine brothers and sisters and sisters. Mr. McBride was educated at Eastern Arizona State College and U of A in Tucson. He was an author and educator, teaching with the Dept. of Water and Power of the City of L.A., L.A. Technical College and extension classes at UCLA. He also worked in a supervisory capacity with the Dept. of Water and Power, L.A. for 30 years. He served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Antonio, TX, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in WWII. Bruce had various church callings, but, his favorite was the Gospel Doctrine Class which he taught for many years. He also served as a Bishop in the Northridge, CA Ward. His love of the outdoors was the inspiration for many of his articles and short stories, as well as a book entitled “The Wilderness Connection”. He wrote an extensive family history and co-authored an historical novel. Bruce and Velda are the grandparents of 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was truly loved by his family and all who knew him. He will be remembered most for his unconditional love of others, cheerful disposition, light-hearted, kind sense of humor, and his generosity of spirit.
